Welcome
from Fire Chief John Warren Gay
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give a little background
as to how I became the Fire Chief for Yakima County Fire District #4, better known
as the East Valley Fire Department.
Sometimes life takes an unexpected turn and there you are grabbing victory from
the arms of defeat. I feel fortunate
that I was offered the position as Fire Chief.
This position allows me to be part of an organization with vision and focus
regarding customer service and at the same time be a team member with some really
dynamic personnel. The East Valley Fire Department is a blend of really caring elected
Fire Commissioners, warm hearted and knowledgeable career staff and dedicated, sincere
volunteers correctly referred to as “paid on call” firefighters.
The East Valley of Yakima County is a vibrant, growing geographical area with some
of the nicest residents, workers and business owners you would ever want to meet. Everyone, without exception, has striven
to make my wife and I feel welcome. As the Fire Chief for this district I have many
roles that keep me quite busy. It is
my responsibility to review our past, assess our future and blend both to lead this
fire district forward while adhering to sound financial principals.
As the CEO for East Valley Fire Department I am very impressed with my governing
board and response personnel. My career
has taken me to five states and eight departments, all helping to build my knowledge
and experience bank. This knowledge and experience, with proper application, will
benefit not only this department, but also its varied economic base and citizenry.
For those who read this letter please understand that I am here to serve the citizens
of the East Valley Fire Department as well as the firefighters and officers. My
door is always open and I will always make time for you.
Got a question regarding our responses, future plans or spending? Give me
some of your time and I’ll give you all the time you need.
Have a great day,
John Warren Gay
Fire Chief
